A Message from the Visitor Economy Team

Hi All,

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Visitor Economy Industry Forum in November. It was a valuable opportunity to share the Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA)’s current projects, future aspirations and the collaborative direction we’re shaping together for Adelaide’s visitor economy. Thank you to our presenters at the forum—Jordon Tomopoulos (AEDA), Kate Gould (Adelaide Festival Centre), and Peter Reid and Chris Plummer (SATC).

The South Australian Tourism Awards and Australian Hotels Association SA Awards for Excellence are always exciting nights on the visitor economy calendar. It was great to see so many of our wonderful city operators nominated. Congratulations to all winners and finalists—your achievements continue to strengthen our city’s reputation.

We’re also extremely excited by news that China Eastern will commence the first ever direct flight from Adelaide to Shanghai in mid-2026. It opens up new opportunities for our tourism market and connects South Australia to one of the world’s biggest economies. Qantas’ commitment to establishing an Innovation Centre in Adelaide also marks a significant milestone for our city, positioning us at the forefront of developing seamless, world-class digital experiences for the millions of travellers who choose Qantas each year.

While Adelaide won’t be hosting COP31 next year, we remain focused on activating the city around other major events and opportunities that showcase our capabilities and creativity.

With event season now upon us, we look forward to a busy and exciting period ahead as we welcome visitors and celebrate the best of Adelaide.

Wishing you all the best for the festive season ahead.

Thank you,
Gemma Nelson
